Quality Health Insurance at Low Costs
It may seem like an axiom that quality health insurance costs a great deal, but there are bargains to be had. A wise buyer can lower their costs while still having good medical insurance coverage if they do a little research and know some of the tips for smart buying.
Good health insurance costs more as we get older, but there are some excellent policy options just for those 50 and older through organizations like the AARP. Membership is very inexpensive in the organization and you can then access their fine group policies for auto, life and health insurance. For those changing jobs, these premiums are often much less than the COBRA premiums to keep an old policy in force.
Another option for low cost insurance is through fraternal and benevolent groups and lodges who also have group insurance available. If you already belong to such groups you should look into the coverage they have available. Unions also may have group plans for their members.
For those on Social Security Medicare is another option where costs are low and the quality of the health insurance is fairly high. Medicare does have deductibles and copayments that can add up, so getting a Medicare supplement policy is usually the key to getting the highest quality of care. Most of these policies are affordable as well.
Another great Medicare option is the Medicare HMO. With these plans you have more coverage and may even in some plans pay less for your Medicare premiums! The drawback is that you are limited to participating physicians in the HMO contract, so you may need to change doctors or hospitals.
Those who are younger than Medicare age can also comparison shop easily, since companies are happy to give free quotes for policies.
